The Massachusetts Highway Department’s Commissioner, Luisa Paiewonsky, State Senator, Bruce E. Tarr and State Representative Harriet Stanley visited the Parker River Bridge Project in Newbury, MA for a ribbon cutting ceremony opening the bridge to traffic.

The ceremony took place on January 5, 2009. The bridge was opened to traffic four months ahead of the accelerated schedule (see article below). Before a crowd of local officials, residents, Massachusetts Highway Department staff and S&R’s construction crew, Commissioner Paiewonsky declared the bridge open to traffic 21 months ahead of the original contract completion date and at a savings of $340,000 to the Commonwealth and the tax payers. The ribbon cutting ceremony was followed by a celebratory walk across the bridge by the Commissioner and the entire assembly.

Congratulations to Massachusetts Highway Department Resident Engineer Dave Conroy and his staff; S&R’s Superintendent, Russ Burnham; Assistant Project Manager, Brad Lubenau and Construction Division Manager Eric Jones.
