The training focused on Excavation and Trenching Safety, Manufactured Shoring, OSHA Construction Std.1926.650 Subpart P-Excavations, Mass Law 520 CMR 14 Trench Safety, and Lead in Construction and Demolition, Health Hazards and Control Measures.
Mark Lord, Sr Outside Sales for United Rental, presented the first session on Excavation and Trenching. Included was an Overview of Trenching and Excavation – Risks and Controls, OSHA Standards 1926.650 Subpart P – Excavation, shoring, and Competent Person Training and requirements, and focusing on the OSHA requirements, Sheeting – Wood and Steel and Bracing.
John Graham, Northeast Manager for Speed Shore (the originator of aluminum hydraulic shoring), presented various types of manufactured and hydraulic shoring, including proper use and misuse of shoring. The presentation included vertical shoring, waler systems, shoring shields, excavation braces, mega shores, slide-rail systems, modular panel shields, manhole shields, manguard shields, aluminum trench shields and bedding boxes.
The presentation was completed with a show and tell of Excavation and Trenching Equipment.
Jeffrey L. Dill, CHMM, of JTS Group, Inc. presented the second session, Lead in Construction. Jeff’s presentation included Federal and State Regulations, working with Lead in Demolition Operations, Working with Lead in Construction, Personnel protection, Medical Surveillance, site control and remediation, and Monitoring – personnel and adjacent areas.
S&R Corporation, with our ongoing Bridge Construction and Demolition Projects, is regularly presented with Excavation and Trenching and Lead Based Paint Risks. The presentations this day helped to both train and reinforce S&R Corp’s focus on worker and public safety in these areas.
